Hi all.here`s some info on my s60-2.4t.
first off let me say to all s60 owners and many other model owners in the s,v and what ever else. This all started about 1 month ago,i purchased a used 01 s60 just to kick around with, well, i should have done some research first on these cars.to many noted problems and not enough cures.the day we received this car it ran very nice---About 1hr----then it died......no reason it just quit running.i did all the normanl diagnostics and all these codes came up--po344-p0342-p0344 no matter what i did this would not stop.so after many call`s and yes a few replacement parts, again no luck....well here`s what i found.Listen Well,if your car as all car`s due you will have a check engine light and many other lights, but, the one to watch is your-OIL PRESSURE LIGHT.don`t be fooled, if you turn the key to start, make sure you see the oil pressure light on. not a blink of the eye but -ON- when the engine starts it should go off as normal, but, if you see a it in a blink of an eye and it`s gone, here is your problem...First off the oil pressure works on about 50lbs cold and 35-40 hot at idle.if someone unplugged the switch then you (most likley) have no oil pressure, and you car runs like crap, check engine lt on,rough running, stalls and so on....The Fix----this will cure most of your problems.first, remove the plastic splash cover under car, then look up under the front of the oil pan you will see a brown wire and a single pole connector, if it`s unplugged then you need some work...remove the oil pan total of 36 bolts.29 on pan,4 on cooler,2 horizontal and 1 for the steering line.pull off the cover it`s not hard, you may have to bend the 2 tabs on the side of it but that`s about it.next, in the sump or pan there is a tube connecting the oil pick up, remove the bolt then pull out the tube, look very closely at the seals (2) there most likley cracked or just hard as a rock.now remove the oil pick tube on the engine and again, look at the seals.also there are (2) that crush against the oil pan and (2) on the oil cooler, now clean everthing as i did, also, make sure you have you pan cleaned as well and the pick up tube also.there is a seal kit on pelicanparts.com for $16.00, this covers all your seals and some extra gaskets you won`t need.now you will also need liquid gasket sealer, just apply a small amount to the cover and block then, reinstall the oil pan,6qts of oil and a new filter and guess what....all your problems solved...low oil pressure causes you VVT solinoid to go crazy due to lack of oil pressure.it also throws other codes that will drive you nut`s.but now your car will run new......also if your car needs an AC charge and volvo says you need to recharge on the high side.well i just did it on the low side, 2.2 cans and it perfect.......
2001 S60 problem and the cure for p0342, p0344
Yes,the oil pressure switch was unplugged so it would not show any problems until i put it back on then the light came on and the imformation center said low oil pressure.I just finished replacing the seals in the oil pan and now 38lbs hot at idle-70lbs at 2000rpm sounds great.
