You need a 99-2000 AWD tranny

Can you be little more descritpive? like excty what electronics are differrent? th NSBU 's and plug on top look identical.
Is it a valvebody? I can swap that out too. What exctly is the difference. I here the 2000 is a completely different trans a 5 spd vs a 4 spd.

Sorry, I can't tell you the difference between '98 trans and the '99. I can tell you that '99 was the first year for coil on plugs and the Electronic Throttle Module. Also, my 2000 V70XC does have a four speed auto. My owners manual even states that AWD cars get the four speed auto's and FWD get the fivespeed auto's. Also, when I was shopping for V70 last fall, I did test drive a '98 and it had three buttons on the shift console, S, E, & W, where as my '00 just has one button, W. that might be the difference in the electronics. Mine might be more adaptive to driving styles than the '98 and older cars. Good luck in your quest for a rebuildable tranny. R/ Allen

A 2000 XC has the same 4-speed as the 99 - in fact, all 2000's except the NA S/V70's still had the 4 speed.
It would stand to reason that the valve bodies are exactly the same, but the way in which the transmission is controlled is different since the signal comes from the ETM and it knows "adaptive" shifting techniques that learn your driving style rather than having the old S/E/W switches.
As far as what EXACTLY is different, I'm not entirely sure. A 95-earlier transmission can be retrofitted to work in a 96-98 car, and vice versa with a bit of work, so I'd think it's possible with these too. Might be a question for the guys at Swedespeed.
