850 radiator replace tips

Post by viperocco »

So i replaced the radiator in 95 850 turbo following bay13's writeup. since the brackets holding the radiator to frame were broken we pulled the rad out the top. now looking at lower condenser line, we were not really sure how we could have gotten it in or out the bottom. when installing the new rad we decided to go from the top. all you have to do to install from the top (pretty sure remove will work too) is remove the battery and battery tray. all i did after pulling the battery out is unscrew the 2 13mm bolts and pull the tray out of the way. then i rad dropped right in...hope this helps

I have to say, I always wonder myself how they drop them out the bottom. I always saw the top as being a lot easier then the bottom because all you need to do it remove the top support. Thank you for making this clear to everyone.

I couldn't get the brackets on the radiator to clear from the top on my car. It probably would have worked had I removed the fan shroud and SAS pump first, but I was trying to remove the least amount of stuff necessary. I did remove one from the top on a junkyard 850 Turbo model, so it is also possible.

Either way, you need to get UNDER the car to unscrew the two bolts that hold the radiator in. Then I suppose you can go whichever way you want to with it. My Rhino ramps were the perfect height to work it out underneath - they're something like 5-6" tall.

The condenser, intercooler, and radiator are all sandwiched together - try to be gentle with the condensor, as it's going to be left hanging by its pipes. When I went to put them all back in, I found bungee cords (and my younger brother) to be very helpful.
