I agree with using quality parts. I just installed Akebono pads and Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors in the front. I also installed SS brake lines - they were only 10 bucks more per wheel from FCP, so I figured 'what the heck'. Not one squeak from them, didn’t have to bed them, and they lock 'em up pretty good. I bled the system using DOT4 fluid. Now I just need to fix my ABS module and I'll be back to factory spec’s!

Be VERY careful with Zimmermann drilled discs! They react quite badly to very abrasive pads, I've seen quite a few pictures of rotos that had huge cracks from hole to hole after hard braking. Better use non-drilled discs, even the grooved Brembos have a few problems. The bigger brakes kits mostly come with flat or grooved discs, seldom with drilled. Be extra-careful when the discs were not drilled from the factory...

Good to keep in the back of my mind. I’m not too worried about them because I'm a family man with a daughter learning how to drive, so I'm not hammering the track at all.

I picked up the drilled rotors because they were ~15 or 20 bucks more than a pair of the regular ones, so I figured I'd add a little sparkle to my setup.

I've read some threads about the Brembo rotors being made in China and suffering from quality, which is one of the reasons I choose the Zimms, and they were drilled by them or I would've passed on them. I'm gonna stay away from rotors drilled by someone other than the manufacturer.

Are you sure about the DOT4+ fluid though? In my manual (T5 1994) it says something about using DOT3 or DOT4.
Yeah, for the 1998 T5 the Dot 4+ is specified, I once bought a 400ml containter of it from the dealer for $13 just for a top up because I couldn't find it elsewhere. The Dot 5.1 is also recommended and more readily available in comparison to the Dot 4+.
