Hello I bought my first Volvo, a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT earlier this summer and overall its been a great upgrade to my aging 93 SAAB 9000 CSE.
However lately its been doing this funny thing. After I put my key into the ignition and start the car, out every 10 times (especially after not using the car for several hours or overnight) the car won't start. The starting noise will engage but the engine won't turn on.
If I try it to start it right after it does this on the second attempt it so far always works like it should.
Most of the time it starts up fine, just once in a while it does this.
What could be causing this issue??
By the way the check engine light is on, the mechanic says its a secondary emissions fault code.
NEW VOLVO 850 OWNER: No start/Start probelms. Topic is solved
Hi. I have had a Volvo 850 sedan for 3 years and love it to death. However, last weekend I went to start it, it cut off the first time and then afterwards would not start at all. It sounded as if it was going to start, but would never turn over. I took it to my general mechanic who took out the spark plugs, put them back in, and for the heck of it tried the key. She started right away and he checked it off and on all day yesterday, it would start every time.
Now, since no problem was found, I'm a little leery that it might get me where I want to go but fail to bring me back.
Anyone have any suggestions to check?
Thanks.
