2008 s60 FWD rattling noise from front driver door area

Post by Viztang »

Hi,

This is my first time visiting this great forum. I am currently a 2008 s60 owner. I love the car but it starts to produce a rattling noise from the A Pillar area in the driver side. The sound only appears when driving on uneven road. Near the joint area between the console, the A Pillar, and the door panel. I have tried to open the trim for A pillar and padded quite some in there, but it didn't help. I started to question if it could be some loose air tightening a rubber or something else.

It's really driving me crazy considering I just bought it for a quite ride. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and please please help! I am kind of devastated. :? I am also thinking trade it in if the problem persists. Or at least go to a dealer, which I wonder what they can find.

Thanks much!
Derek

I know this does not help but I get the same sound from time to time from my passenger side door.

Thanks for the reply. It really annoys me since I am quite sensitive to this kind of buzzing noise. I don't know if this is just a common situation or am I just unlucky to have one. The car looks and drives good but the noise just bugs me so much. I am thinking either to solve this problem, or just trade it in for something more well-built.

Please help. I am pretty handy so I would still want to give it a last try. :)

Hi guys,

After tearing things apart, I finally found the cause of the problem. It is the front part of weather stripe bumping with something. Once I tear it down, the buzzing noise disappears. I tried to padding the strip with soft paddings, but that didn't help. Is there any suggestions that I should do from here? I am just glad the car is all quiet again, granted I am driving with part of the weather stripe down. :D

Do you think replace the entire weather strip would help? Or is it actually something else I need to look into? I intend to bring this to the dealership next week, but am willing to deal with it after Friday. My dissertation proposal presentation is scheduled on that day. :)

Cheers,
Derek

Hi,

I believe I have the same problem.
I hear a rattling sound from the front end or from the door panel when I run on uneven road (bumps).
Looking at your post, I do not understand what you mean by weather stripe?
Where is it, what does it look like? Can you be more precise please.
Thanks

Derek, looks like your car should still be under warranty. Let the dealer fix the problem for you.

Agreed on the warranty.

I had the same issue on a road trip--a moth had gotten lodged in between the weatherstripping and the A-pillar causing it to rattle around. Once the moth broke free it stopped. You could replace the clips or get some good double-sided tape to hold it down in the loose area.
