I wanted to add a couple more gauges to my S70, but I already have a boost gauge on my a-pillar and I didn't want to add any more there.
I decided to use the space behind the coin holder underneath the ashtray
I removed the ashtray and it's mounting bracket and made certain I had clearance to snake the tubing around to the panel under the steering column and through the firewall pass through that comes out by the fuse box. Ultimately I wired the lights directly to the dimmer switch.
Removing the shift knob, the radio, and the flashers makes it a lot easier to work. I cut out the back of the plastic insert with a hacksaw.I used a cheap under-dash mounting bracket and attached it where the ashtray mount had been.
I played with the angle a bit to get a good view of the gauges. I also made certain I had enough clearance to open the coin holder.I think it's a great place to add gauges without it looking like I've got too much aftermarket add-ons.
