2002 S60(no turbo) engine misfire

Post by Vol S60 »

I start the car today and drive 1mile in rain in 10-30m/h speed. The car did not have regular power and i noticed it is running only on 4 cylinders or misfiring on 2. I turn round and got home. No check engine on. No codes. I let the car cool down and started again. It was running better for while and when i try to raise rpm and it started misfiring again.
My friend think it is burned ignition coil. Any other suggestions? How to find out which cylinder is misfiring?

read for stored codes. If there is a misfire, maybe a code was stored, indicating the misfiring coil.

I am shooting in the dark, but where is the ECU mounted in theses cars? I have a lot of experience with BMW ECU getting wet due to their poor location and causing symptoms as you describe. This may be your problem.

I belive the ecu is the black box in the engine bay behind d right headlight. The 2 modules get too darn hot to the touch after some driving. There is no vent in the box and engine heat might affect those 2 modules in the long run. I read on another forum that u can route a hose from the box to the front of the car for ventilation. I think this is a good idea but b sure to prevent water sippage.
