 :? Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the heater core and evaporator are the first thing Volvo puts in the car when they build it.

Unless you are an advance intermediate mechanic don't try it. It will take a FULL day. You need to take out both airbags and disconnect the steering column.

Go to the Volvo repair database and follow the thread for AC evaporator replacement. It has photos of what is involved. Good luck.

Ok, that the entire dash needs to come out is what my local mechanic then quoted me $1400 for the job.
My Haynes manual said you can get to the Heater Core housing directly by peeling back the carpet and some kick panels. This instruction works but then you are force fitting the new core into a very tight space. I did this and with some fussing around got a new core in place.

Problem is that even with new O-rings (I caught on to this trap) and the phillips holding the pipe to the core, my heater is still leaking like crazy.

When I looked at the Evaporator project it still looked by access to the Heater core area is still pretty tight. Looking at the leakage it appears that the pipe from the firewall to heater core may be leaking at the heater core end.

Does anyone know any thing I may be missing or good tricks for replacing these pipes?

Thanks in advance.
