How do I "pm" a member? and upload pic's?

To PM a member (you must be logged in).
To attach a file:
This is at the bottom of the page when you hit 'post reply'
If you upload multiple pictures, hit the "place inline" button after adding each one, and it will add it into the text of the post where you want it.

Good thing it doesn't bite. RE: the pic's. If I want to upload a series with text between photos like members usually do, must I create that offline in PS or some other image editor, then save it as one file? Or can individual images be sequenced into a post? Also, where did you get those cool arrows in your reply? And what editor do posters usually use to circle points on a picture?

Once you upload a picture, a box will appear underneath your post containing that file. At that time, you can add text or place the image in your text where you want to above.
I use Adobe Photoshop, but there's a very steep learning curve with that software (and a hefty price tag!).
For simply drawing a circle around something, most people just open files with Microsoft Paint. Save your files as a copy in case you screw up the original or want to use it again for something else, and then upload the copy.
Don't worry if you screw up a post the first time - you can always go back and edit it later. I screw up all the time. There's an "edit" button at the top of your post.

For basic labeling of the pic with arrows and letters to show your DIYs, Windows Paint program (comes with any Windows O.S.) is free and does the job fine.
