key stuck in ignition on 2000 S40

Post by MB »

I have an unusual problem that my key is stuck in the ignition. I tried the shift release to see if I could then extract the key, and then ran out of options. Have looked on the web to see if anyone else has had a similar situation with now luck. Anyone out there experience this and then resolved?

We have recently experienced this problem several times in our 2000 S40. It is related to the small button located on the right front side of the gear shift lever housing. It becomes stuck and fails to spring all the way up to release the key. It always frees itself rhodac143

I have heard that the release button can be freed by applying a small amount of window washing fluid around it. However I would prefer to try WD40. I have not yet tried either but plan to try one. It always releases itself in time. Carry an extra key if you must lock for short time.

We had teh same problem with a V40 Auto at work. It is all to do with the release button near the automatic shift not working.
