Hey All,
I am a first-time car owner. Been bussing, biking, and walking for many years. Three months ago, I bought a used 98 S90 (98K). It was parked in my sister's driveway for 2 months before I first drove it, yesterday. I was so excited to take it for a drive on the freeway with the sunroof back. Alas, the damned thing busted. I had tested the sunroof not two weeks before, and everything worked. Now, it goes up and down but not back and forth. My hopes and dreams have been dashed to pieces.
I am car-clueless. Any suggestions?
Sunroof, 1998 S90

It is probably the motor, but it could be a bad switch. If you truly know nothing about cars electric motors and switches I would suggest taking it to a dealership or a Swedish car expert. Dealerships are more expensive, but they will ussually always do good work. A foreign car shop will be cheaper but they are not always experts.

1st thing. Find a compentent independent mechanic (IM) familiar with Volvos, unless you feel the need to buy your dealer a new boat.
If the sunroof goes up and down, it is not the motor, cuz the same motor duz both movements. I think cables are used to move the sunroof back and forth, this could be the problem, or binding.
You want this looked at by someone who has been there b4, these things can be troublesome for the inexperienced.
Good luck.
