Need help with DIM software re-load

Post by sxybrick »

Hi guys,
Need some help here...
I had my DIM rebuilt by Xemodex and they replaced a bunch of components including the main processor.
Due to the new processor I need to have a software re-load. As it sits right now, the cluster is back in the car but nothing works on it. Xemodex told me to take it to the dealer and have them treat is as a new DIM. My local dealer has never done this before and even the local Volvo rep has never encountered this before. Their concern is that if they re-flash the DIM they could lose the CEM. They will not be responsible if the CEM is affected and at $1,000 for a new CEM I am hesitant to sign the waiver and have them go ahead....
Does anyone have experience with this? Specifically this new DIM??
Car is 2002 V70 2.4T
Thanks,
Charles

Nope and they (dealer) should not be responsible!
The network in these cars is a frutrating piece of garbage(IMO) and you're installing something aftermarket over it.
XeMODex should coordinate this with them directly, they MUST take responsibility for any other issues caused by the DIM
if something happens
I don't know why it would need a reload in the first place

That's what I was worried about... Apparently it needs a re-load because the processor in the DIM was replaced. I'll go back to xemodex and see what they have to say...

I don't understand why they fear the CEM would be affected. When you replace the DIM in a P2 car, you pull the old one (preferably after reading the settings off, though if it's dead, that's okay), install it, key in 2, connect DiCE, read network, fault trace any codes if found, clear codes, order DIM reload, install DIM reload, reprogram mileage, test drive. It's got nothing to do with the CEM, the car configuration file gets updated by the settings stored on the PIE server. As long as there was only one change (the DIM), then a reload of it should not corrupt ViTAL. If there's a problem, there's a software P/N for a "Network reload CAN" that the dealer can order in consultation with Volvo technical, though they'll likely require a new DIM board (that has, assuredly, nothing on it). So, contact XemodeX, inform them of what the dealer says, get either an assurance of them fixing the problem, or your money back (so you can have the DIM board replaced in the instrument cluster by the dealer), and reload away.

Well the final outcome was that the dealer tried performing the download, but the DIM did not respond. It was as if a it were still a dead DIM. He said he tried pinging it? Not sure what that means but end result is Xemodex is issuing a full refund and dealer is replacing the DIM with a new Volvo unit. Both Xemodex and the dealer were very accomadating and tried to solve the problem so hat's off to them but I have to go with the more expensive option. Good thing I had my 240 as a backup these last few days-don't ever have to worry about replacing a $900 part on that car!
