Hello Volvoians !
trying to help out a woman friend who's 98 V 70 with 100k plus miles, on-board readiness stuff
are not communicating. I did not use the exact driving procedure as discribed in this forum but
i did put it through 3 events. Like cold starts, drive it approx. 5 miles ( + - few miles ) shut it off,
repeat that for 3x. Is there any other way of testing the ECU to determine if it will communicate so
she can get a inspection sticker ? The inspection station recommended the driving procedure,
of take it out for a 20 minute blast at 60 70 mph .
If this does not communicate does it need a new ECU ! ?

Mr. Alot, Thanks alot ! Hey, that li'l mod to the intake is, Bonus Boost Time !Nice ! Yeah, that's my next one ! Oh, i hated putting mine back together without that cold air intake mod !
Yeah, I' ll try these 2 suggestions. Heck, I hope it is one of these simple obstructions !
Wiggle it and / or dust it ! LOL ! No, really funny, if it is one of these things ! Too simple for me. I always go for the most
complicated reasons first ! ! !

When I went in for emissions inspection, I was in a "Not Ready" state.
I was directed to a fellow in the office that had a decade or so of serious
Volvo experience at a local Volvo indy shop. He had a few choice words
about the system in the '98's. NOT easy to satisfy the "Ready" requirements...
He was kind enough to put it on the sniffer and write me a waiver.
Best of luck!

He actually has an established route and procedure for resetting the system.
One of these days, I hope to take that ride and get those damn symbols on my
Innova to quit blinking... Should that ever happen, I'll be sure to take notes!
I just want my car to be Happy.
