The question that no one seems to know!

Post by gabegiovara »

Where in the world is the fuel pump relay on a 2000 volvo v40? On every forum Ive checked this question is always unanswered. Im guessing it might be secret volvo info for dealers only or something. I just want to change a simple relay but no one seems to know where it is located. I have my owners manual and it is not listed in there. The relay housing under the hood has a plastic cover with all the relays in that area listed and there is no fuel pump relay or EFI relay listed. I cant believe they make it so hard to find a simple relay. If anyone has any idea where it might be please let me know. If your right, Ill gladly buy you lunch.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

I don't think it is secret information just confusing as different books show relays with different job descriptions.

If your engine compartment fuse/relay box looks like this:

relay #4 is given as the fuel pump relay. This box was fitted up to 5/2000.

If your engine compartment fuse/relay box looks like this:

None of the relays is listed as the fuel pump relay. This box was fitted from 6/2000.

Thank you for the reply Bill. My fuse box looks like the second diagram. So where do you think it could be if its not in the main housing?

Question answered - on the smaller side of the engine compartment fuse relay box you will find a row of 3 relays closest to the smaller side edge of the fuse box . It is the middle one.

See repair database above for wiring diagrams and go to relay section for a picture.

If i were to refer to the second picture above it would be number 8
