[I know Ozark Lee already wrote up this repair in January 2007, but his relay was the 89 8769 000 and not the 89 8797 000]. I'd like to go buy the replacement caps before pulling and opening up the relay and I'm not sure what the caps are in an 89 8797 000. Thanks!

Fuel Pump Relay capacitor value question
I'm planning to replace the fuel pump relay capacitors on my '97 855 GLT (141k) and the part number for the relay in my car is 89 8797 000. Could someone who has already done this job let me know if the capacitors are 22uF and 100uF?

Those were the values that worked for me but read the microprint - at my age and may scratched up glasses everything is microprint - and see what was the original value capacitance in uF. On the voltage rating error on the high side if you cannot match the original part.

Thanks. I pulled the relay today (Volvo part # 89 8797 000) and took a look. I found that the capacitors were 22uF and 100uF just as on the 89 8769 000 part number that you repaired. One additional thing is that on the side of the 22uF, the temperature is rated 105C, which is a higher temp than the standard 85C for aluminum electrolytics. It's probably a good idea to replace the capacitors with higher temperature rated parts, such as the Panasonic P13132-ND (22uF, 50V) and P13122-ND (100uF, 25V) from DigiKey (37 cents and 44 cents each + $2.41 shipping) which are rated for 7000 hrs at 105C (the maximum I could find). These parts are approximately the same dimensions as the original caps (original 22uF, 25V cap is 5mm dia x 12mm tall, with 2.5mm lead spacing; the original 100uF, 16V cap is 5mm dia x 12mm tall with 3mm lead spacing). The DigiKey 22uF is 5mm x 15mm and has 2mm lead spacing and the 100uF is 6.3mm x 15mm with 2.5mm lead spacing. I'm going to buy these parts and install them next weekend I hope and will post a report.
I also took a look at the solder joints for the relay. There are many of them and all of them except two at the base showed cracking in the solder joints. I took a picture of two of the cracked joints (attached). I reflowed the joints and added a little fresh solder to fix.
