Let’s talk about this Fuel Pump Relay Capacitor
I also took a look at the solder joints for the relay. There are many of them and all of them except two at the base showed cracking in the solder joints. I took a picture of two of the cracked joints (attached). I reflowed the joints and added a little fresh solder to fix.“
It’s probably a good idea to replace the capacitors with higher temperature rated parts, such as the Panasonic P13132-ND (22uF, 50V) and P13122-ND (100uF, 25V) from DigiKey (37 cents and 44 cents each + $2.41 shipping) which are rated for 7000 hrs at 105C (the maximum I could find). These parts are approximately the same dimensions as the original caps (original 22uF, 25V cap is 5mm dia x 12mm tall, with 2.5mm lead spacing; the original 100uF, 16V cap is 5mm dia x 12mm tall with 3mm lead spacing). The DigiKey 22uF is 5mm x 15mm and has 2mm lead spacing and the 100uF is 6.3mm x 15mm with 2.5mm lead spacing.
