06 s60 t5 manual..to buy or not to buy?

Post by koffinb »

Hello everyone, i'd like some input or advice please.
i came acros an 06 S60 t5 manual trans. with 92000 miles on the clock, i was wondering if there were any known issues on these vehicles, i know transmission is ruled because it is a manual. I am very familiar with these cars, i currently own a 2001 volvo v70 t5 with a "dying" tranny.
Is this a good car to purchase even with the mileage a tad high? I'm a volvo salesman and the car was recently traded in so i don't know just how much MY employee price would be, but i definitely love how smooth the car drives. ANY input would be greatful!
Thanks in advance.

and you don't know if this is a good car or not!????? You sell them for God's sake!
I've bought several 04-06 XCs lately with mileage from 80 to 113K and ALL of them proved to be good cars.
You need to get the service history and have your shop go over it BEFORE you buy it
You're due for a Tbelt soon, maybe some from end work, otherwise it should be fine

They came with manuals?? Awesome!

Only major issue ours has is the trans, so getting rid of that autotragic would be a big step in the right direction.

06 GT trannies are just fine but a 6 sp manual T5 is a fun car.
I've sold a couple out of the 100 or so built each year... 05 and 06

'05 and newer S60 are great cars, good reliability, especially if maintained well.

I say trade the V70 and go for it, you'll like it.

Thanks guys, unfortunately today may have been the last day of the v70's fate. Was involved in a chain reaction car crash today, not too major but headlights and radiator are all messed up and so is the bumper..the car needed a new tranny and tires, so i'm hopin insurance just claims it as totaled, there's no point in fixing it i don't think..we'll see how this goes

You tell the insurance the car does not shift properly now, problem solved

Your V70 isn't worth that much, the appraisal for it is probably between 2-6k. Replacement of tires and bumper, radiator would be definetely a total loss. Tires would cost them 200 - 250 +. Well on the bright side, you get to go buy another volvo. I just purchased my '07 volvo s60 with 29k km. And I'm picking it up this weekend and trading in my '97 850.
I test drove an '07 T5 with an automatic and for a volvo with 250hp, definetely packs a punch but I went for the cheaper 2.5t fwd with 29k km.
IMO, mileage is a little high, but if you can service history, and get it looked over by a mechanic, it should be ok.

If the '06 was a one-owner car and was maintained at your dealer... I'd consider it a gift from the heavens.
