Cam Position Sensor question
My wife took our 98, S70 to the dealer for an oil change and diagnostics checks. After doing both, the dealer claims the Cam Position Sensor died coincidentally and the car will no longer start. The dealer also claimed they can't damage the Cam Position Sensor, it died by itself. The car has been serviced regularly by the same dealer and was running fine when she took it in. Is this dealer truethful or are they trying to rip us off?

thanks for your reply. the cam position sensor is indeed dead. my question is could the dealer, either intentionally or unintentionally, caused it to go dead.

I call dealer BS. The car worked when you took it in. That's their problem whether they intentionally did it or not (seems to me you can short out any part electrical either accidentally or if you try hard enough). Demand to get it back running properly or you'll seek legal action.

unfortunately, legal action is what I'm forced to do. I filed a complaint with the BBB first. The dealer first claimed they couldn't find any record of the "service" they did, after I gave them the VIN, they didn't bother to respond so the BBB dropped their rating to a "D". Then I filed a complaint with California Consumer Affairs, which didn't do any good either. That's why I'm trying to gather all the information I can before filing with small claims court.

I think you have a good case if you have money to pursue the suit and would do that. I would also let the dealer know that you will let as many people as possible know that this is not a good place to do business with.
