Excessive tire wear.

My 2005 XC90 has 9000 miles on it and is making thumping sounds from the tires. I took it to the dealer and of course they said it was a tire problem. I asked for a front end alignment and the right front toe was -0.29, the range was -0.5 to -0.15. The dealer said that it was ok and that wouldn't cause premature tire wear which is evident by the scalloping and feathering especially on the right front wheel. I would like to know if this figure on the toe measurement is the cause of the tire wear. Thanks, Jim
