2003 S60 Hard Shifting When Hot

Post by tilewis »

I have a 2003 S60 2.4T auto transmission with 110K. The transmission has started shifting hard after it is hot. When the engine is cool, shifting is smooth, but after it warms up, shifting becomes erratic and hard. From first to second will shift at about 3K rpm then shift into second with a jerk. Sometimes the engine will rev between first and second without second engaging, then it will engage and the wheels will spin. I've run Sea Foam through it and flushed the transmission with ATF 3309. Problem remains. Any ideas?

I have a 2003 V70 2.4T 99K and it's been doing the same thing as yours, (same trans) I did my own flush 3309 and then did a lower case drain and a little better , >>>I have heard a software update. dealer only , I do not know.<<< I will say that I have been driving as such: 'WOT' wide open throttle on occasion put through the entire shift pattern, and supper. this car is a good car, BEST

JRL, I'm assuming thats a dealers/VIDAS tech only thing? Also, I'm a little confused how a software (firmware) update can fix a problem that just showed up. Does the current software load become currupt somehow? Everything was great until a few 1000 miles ago and the problem seems to be getting worse. Also, why would it just do it when it gets hot? Could the TCM being going bad??

There is a software update out that is supposed to correct a hard upshift between 2 and 3. It may be more noticeable now, but I bet it was always there to an extent.

Change your fluid with Volvo 3309 or the Toyota Type-IV equivalent. And yes, dirty fluid can cause it to happen when hot.

Also check your motor mounts as they can cause the shifts to feel hard.
