Brake failure stop ASAP

Greetings all,
My first post yea!
"Brake failure stop safely ASAP" is the message I keep getting every now and then, not all the time but 3 or 4 times every 15 miles. Sometimes if I do stop the speedo stops working then when I pull off the engine reverts to "limp home" mode i.e. lots of revs to pull away and no speedo, sometimes it just pulls away as normal, with the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree.
Question 1 Is this a faulty ABS unit?
Question 2 If it is, where is the unit located
Question 3 How easy is it to change?
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Fantastic thank you, it does'nt look too bad, think I might give that a go. The part number that I need for the replacement unit, is that the number you can see on the cover in the picture?
Once again thank you, Volvo wanted about £2000 to replace it.
