Advice on Used S80 : what to look out for

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Advice on Used S80 : what to look out for

Post by yaphics »

Hi Everyone! I am looking at a Volvo S80 '98 Dec model, 2.8 T6. First look seems good. Going to test drive it in 2 days. Read a lot about ETM failure and transmission problem in this forum.

How do I check this when I test drive (or any other potential problems)?
The odo reads 73,000km for a 6 yr + car. The last time I ever drove a Volvo was in '91 (the 240 series, very good car) and the 740.

Thanks! :?:

Thanks for the reply.
Since we were looking at used S80s, there is no warranty from agents: just the wheeler dealer kind (3 months or six).

We have decided to look at some Japanese make: going with the crowd as we can't afford the time to babysit a chronically sick car.

But I must say, the S80, S60 or XC90 still turns our heads everytime one speeds by. I still drool over the cool design. Sigh.

the S80 T6 has been my favorite car. classic comfort, and a sleeper performance (at a price i can afford) that come in handy. i had a nose-to-nose decleration on the highway at night with a state police car last week. if i had a hopped beat box, or a know muclecar, i doubt he would have let me loose at 45MPH. as it was he brought me down to the legal minimum on the highway before he would let my out of the passing lane (do not make eye contact!). not an adventure i care to repeat; need less to say :)
2001 S80 T6 272 base HP engine / IPD ECU / F&B IPD antisway bars / Bilsteins / Ferrita downpipes and cat back exhaust (on the way!)
