740 radio not working

Post by guest »

Recent convert, and though I've only owned a volvo for about 2 days, I'm very impressed and enjoy my new car very much. Also I'm quite happy to have found this board, i've been reading for days and its full of great info and good advice, so a thanks for all the info that has already been posted up. Now, to my "issues"

I've recently bought an 89 740 gle (b234) with a non-functioning after market jvc radio. I've checked fuse 5 and it is working fine. I disconnected the power, and nothing happens with the radio, no input for anti-theft or anything. Just a dead radio. Also, the antenna mast is not working at all with the switch, but I'm assuming it is tied into the radio problem. I don't know much, so if I have to pull out the radio or something, I'll need some help walking through that process.

Also, I'm getting my bulb warming light coming on, though all my lights are functioning normally. should I just jiggle some of the bulbs, or is it a wiring issue (read some other posts about the dome light or vanity light might be an issue)?

also forgot, getting error code 2-2-1 (o2 sensor) in position 6 on the tester. Can I just attempt to clean the sensor, or is this a new part thing? Thanks

With an after market radio, it is very common that it is equipped with an extra fuse mounted in the feeding wire just some inches from the radio unit, so you have to take it out and check if you have such a fuse.

It differs form radio to radio. Probably you have a thin plastic frame around the radio. Normally just put a knife or something similar in the slot and bend carfully, and the frame will be loose. Then it will be a locking device like a hook at both sides of the radio. Once again pull carfully in som thin knife or small screewdriver and try to release the hook at one side at the same time as you pull out the radio. Then you do the same thing at opposite side. When this locking mechanism is released, you can slide out the whole unit and the wires will come after.
