240 1989 Volvo wageon with manual transmission Topic is solved

My 240 1989 Volvo with manual transmission has started making 'whinning' noises when I am in thrid gear. The whine sounds awful, but it comes from the middle or back of the car. It lasts for a while, and then goes. I have no problem shifting from first to second, second to third, third to fourth, and so on. For a while, it also occured during fourth gear. What do you think is wrong?

It can be your transmission....however....I would thoroughly check for other possibilities such as driveshaft center bearing, axle bearings etc.

Would be very hard for anyone of us to tell you what's wrong without hearing and driving your car.
