Power steering pump pulley: R&R?

Post by kayakncycle »

How does one remove/replace the pulley on the P.S. pump?
And can I find just the pulley anywhere?
Thanks

are you absolutely positive it's your PS pulley? I thought mine had went bad when I was about to replace it all, when i found out the loud whining can opener like noise was my AC pulley.

Yes, I'm pretty sure the pulley is my problem since it has an 1" X 1/4" chunk missing from the outside side wall. None of the ribbed diameter is missing.
Thought it might run O-K until I had other maintenance issues because of the ribbed belt and pulley. Was confident everything would stay in place. However I picked up a vibration and noise. Could be out of balance or the belt is thumping against the open space.

Don't take this for gospel, but I don't think the pulley is sold by itself. Vadis list it as a separate part, but list no part #. I have one laying around with a bad pulley, I'll try to look at is as far as how it comes off. I think there was a prior thread here or on swedespeed about this same issue as well.

Thanks for the responses.
Was concerned about high cost of pump with pulley - dealer quoted > $450.
Local salvage yard had pump with pulley for $57. I felt lucky. Came from engine with less miles than the 80,000 on mine.
Merry Christmas to All
