Buy "new" V70, what year (05, 06, 07, or 08)?

Post by cn90 »

I currently own a 1998 V70 which is a very good car. I wrote quite a few DIYs in this forum for that generation. So I am very mechanically inclined.

However I am thinking about buying a newer V70 such as 05, 06, 07, or 08.
Which is the BEST year in terms of reliability of:
- Electronics
- Engine
- Transmission

2005 XC90 2.5T 110K+

I would really be interested in the answers that come back. I see a lot of stuff on the earlier 2K generation V70's and nothing about '05 -10 generations.

2003-07 V70 are great reliable vehicles if maintained properly during its early years. Avoid AWD if you don't really need it.

so a one owner, volvo serviced '03-'07 V70 FWD would be a great choice.

2005-2007 are pretty much the same cars.
Very MINOR changes throughout those years.
The end of the P2 cars and pretty decent if they were maintained properly.

2008s are the "new car" I don't know much about them except I don't care for them.
The way they drive, (like a slug) the interior, the design (BORING), did I forget anything else?
I have not heard too many bad things about them but remember, an 08 is a first year model and will have more issues than an 09 and newer
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP
