Remote Starter Questions/Recommendations

Post by jbarrow8081 »

Hello,

I have an '04 xc90 with about 75k miles and I am considering a remote starter. I looked into a few that were in the $200 range plus about $150 for the install. I was surprised to learn that they also needed an extra key to put in the unit. Is this common or more so with after market remote starters? I have two keys that I got when I bought the car used but do not have another to give up nor do I want to pay for another key.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions they are greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Joe

Very common
I think that key has a transponder in it. They need the second key to replicate the signal the key produces. I always have a third key made that is not cut but has a transponder in it. This way If someone finds the key they can't start the car.

considering it? LOL, i cant live with out mine! :D

do it, expect to goto the dealer for a srs service immediatly code reset. i can garuntee the shop will set it off doing something in this car lol. its a real easy car do also a real easy car to set off the srs light too.

i have done two my self. they are easy. Many shops will never see one of these trucks nor will they ever see one after yours. many shops will not do it. i will and i can. you will loose a key, i ahve 4 and one is in the car. I also did security and starter and cell phone app(drone mobile) and gps tracking. as for the key in the car, no one steals a volvo. what would you do with it? joy ride it, its not the most attractive vehicle nor can we brag abouts its speed. so the concern about the cut key in the car, hahahaha...go ahead and steal it :D
