Battery Questions

Post by SSmith0771 »

I am new to Volvo and new to this forum. I apologize if this post belongs elsewhere, or if it has already been posted (I've been searching the forum for about an hour and have not found it).

My 2004 C70 has recently been giving me trouble starting. The engine cranks but no start, then just clicks. When I hook up jumpers, it starts right away. So off to Walmart to get a replacement battery...

Here's where the first oddity pops up. According to the book at the store, my battery is in my trunk! Okay, its Walmart, what do you expect? I called my local parts store, they look it up...YUP, its in the trunk! That would be fine except that its NOT! So I bring it to my local parts store, after confirming that its NOT IN THE TRUNK, they test the battery...fine. Alternator test is also good. While under the hood, we notice some corrosion on the negative battery terminal. I disconnect and clean. Refilled the battery's water (yes, I used distilled), no change.

So I decide that I need to replace the negative battery cable. After literary searching for hours online, I've determined that while everyone has the positive cables, NO ONE has the negative cables.

Has anyone else had these problems? Any suggestions on where to find the right parts when half the web thinks my battery is on the other end of the car?

You should be able to purchase a battery cable at most auto parts stores or farm store. Measure the length of cable you need and purchase one that long. You are not looking for a specific part number, just the correct length. Try TSC or Big R. I like the batteries they sell, too. Seems the V70 I have is tough to match. Theirs fit perfect and has been good for a few years.
Good luck
