remove and replace 940 rear window details

Post by billy »

I have cracked rear window, it's spider webbed. Is it easy to remove and replace? Auto glass guy wants 270, and that's too rich for this old car because used would be just fine with me. Any "how to"s or suggestions. I've never messed with glass before

Rear window as in door or opposite end to windscreen. If it is the latter is it 4 door (PUR bonded screen) or 5 door (Butyl fix)?

It is 4 door sedan, the rear (or back) window opposite the front windshield

You may be able to find a glass installer that would install a glass that you supply. Then you would just need to find one in an area junkyard.

I agree with lummert but VADIS instructions are attached in case you decide to DIY. It's not a job for the faint hearted, requires two to do it and I do know that professional glass fitters have a training course before they can even assist.

Whow...That's a great file you linked me to. Trully a clear step by step guide. Thank you very much. I live in Florida and rear window defrosters do not have much value. Thanks again, and hat's off to you and your bank of info, Ill use it to try to remove one, and a pro installer said he would put it in for 75.00. May try that route.

One thing not in the file - if you remove a wire from a piano it will give you a bum note so try to pick one that isn't often used! :P

Hello, my name is Aj and I have a Volvo 92' 740. The glass has been broken on the right, rear window side of my wagon. I found this site and learned how to remove the winow (thanks to the link) but now I'm in a nut shell and don't know how to replace it. I would call an installer but money is tight and looking for the cheapest rount. I wouldn't mind the labor work plus having the information would be efficient for the furture anyways. I truly appericate your time in this matter.
