Hi all,
While I'm receiving the "service emission system" warning message only VERY infrequently and have seen no drop off in performance, a mechanic advised me that I need to replace the mass air flow sensor in my 2001 S60, and wants $350 to do so. First, does that price seem about right, and second, can I do it myself? I'm technically capable, but have limited tools.
Thanks!

Should be very easy to replace. Check my sponsor for prices. Should be $100-$150 or so.
The part is most likely directly after or part of the airbox -- where the air filter is. Careful! MASs are delicate.
Before any of that, try re-seating it to its electrical connection.

Matt,
Thanks very much for the tip. Is there someplace I can find a picture or diagram of the location of the MAF sensor? I couldn't find it on my own, and don't want to spring for a repair guide because I'm going to sell the vehicle.
Thanks!

I know this is a very old topic but was this question ever answered? I have to replace my 01 V70 t5 (South African spec) MAS and would like to know if there is any diagrams available to do it my self.

It's so easy... no diagram needed.
The sensor is at the first part of the accordion hose from the air filter box (snugged up against it) and has a connector plugged into it. Undo the connector, unscrew the sensor housing and pull it off of the airbox. Next, install the new one (it will come already in the housing) and reattach everything- you're good to go- a 5 minute job!

I'll second that. I replaced mine on my '99 S70 last night. 'tis verily a 5 minute job (provided you don't drop a screw into the engine). No special tools are needed. A socket wrench for the two mounting bolts and a screw driver for the hose clamp.MadeInJapan wrote:It's so easy... no diagram needed.
