Hello...I'm new to this forum but I have many different cars. I have worked on them all but have never come across this problem. I have searched the forum and have found problems that are close and tried the fixes to no avail. My 1980 240 was running fine until the other day. I went to start it and it backfired and then refused to start. When I first try to start it it turns over and fires for about a second then dies. I tried hitting the fuel pump under the car which looks new but it still will not start. I have checked the fuses and the wirirng and vacuum hoses but still no start. When I try to start it then turn it off I can hear the fuel pump under the car run for a second or two.I'm not sure if the fuel pump relay is bad because I don't know where it is.I have been working on it on and off for 2 weeks. I would love to find a Volvo FACTORY manual because I have a Haynes that covers 1974-1990 and is useless.
ANY ideas would be appreciated...........
THANKS

I figured it out !!!!!!! I'm SO happy...From what I can figure when it backfired it blew the bellows off of the intake manifoild. I saw a little gap between the top of the bellows and the manifold. I took the bellows off, cleaned it and secured it and IT STARTED.....I never would of thought a little gap would do so much......
