need to disable alarm for 2002 xc70

Post by iamjoe »

I replaced my rear window over the summer (16yr old niece backed up into a fence). My alarm has been acting up recently. Not sure if that might be a factor or not.

I lock the door with my fob and sometimes it goes off. Volvo dealership just told me that I need a computer upgrade and a new alarm ($500).

I'm not spending that $. I read about jumping relays here

and was wondering if this is an option for me.
Thanks

Check your owners manual for the fuse location for the alarm siren. I think it will be in the fuse compartment in the cabin at the end of the dash. I would assume pulling this fuse would disable the siren. I had a car that had blown this fuse and the alarm was inoperable. If you aren't getting it already you will probably get the "alarm service message" on the dash, after removing the fuse.

I don't have an owners manual for an 02, but for 04 the fuse is listed as #38 in the above mentioned location.

Thanks for that. If I just turn the alarm off, will there still be a power draw if the alarm is actually going off. The led on the dash will continue to blink. I'd hate to have the alarm run all night if it went off.
Thanks

If you disable it by fuse or other means the alarm won't work regardless of the circumstances. The rti sensor on the dash will probably still flash when the car is locked but any power draw is negligible and nothing to be concerned with.
