My name is Mia and I don't own a Volvo but I currently work for Snap On Diagnostics as an applications specialist where I am working to help develop Volvo coverage for our diagnostic software. This requires a lot of research; especially since I have no previous Volvo experience! However, I am an ASE certified master tech and have a bachelors degree in Advanced Automotive Systems so I know my way around a car. For transportation, I own an '04 Honda Civic Si and my project car which is an '87 Cavalier Z24. I look forward to checking out the site and expanding my Volvo knowledge

Agreed, welcome. From hanging out at dealer parts counters, and lately, Volvo Specialists, I've noticed a gap between what we do here and the official way of doing things.
For instance, control arms. It's more common* here amongst us "shade tree" mechanics to buy a new control arm w/bushings than to drill out the shot bushings and replace via press (or fire) on the existing arm.
So Mia, if you notice any of these differences in our writeups, please don't hesitate to drop a note in the post. All information is useful.
(No one can accuse us of not getting a rounded crowd here. Now we even have a female Snap On applications specialist with an ASE cert! [No offense intended, as you might expect, women, ASE certs, and Snap On employees are each a small minority here].)
* from my general involvement on these MVS forums; I have not done an actual numerical survey.
