2002 V70 Fuel smell

Post by john_boy1959 »

My V70 has a constant smell of fuel which was initially tracked down to all seals on the top of the fuel tank herniating out!. All was well for a week or two then it did it again. My specialist mechanic has been scratching his head as to why when he found some info on the web about a Volvo recall to do with the fuel pump housing cracking (or something like that). On questioning Volvo they came back with "I know nothing".... Can anyone offer any advice as to a solution of whether there was a recall.. For further diagnostic info, eventually the car will reach a point where it has difficulty starting and then when it does, when placed into P or D it stalls.. Help!

yes, there is a fuel pump recall for '01- '03 V70, but I believe it only applies to the USA and only to states that have super hot summers, ie the south. :(

Do a search on fuel pump recall and you'll find the original volvo bulletin, explains which models and where is covered.

Hello everyone John here. Thanks for the above replies. If anyone is interested the recall is # 09V483000- FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP - which can be viewed by going to
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2002/vol ... index.html

A pop up box will come up that has "Start My Comparison",
just click "Close" , Then click on:Recall ID # 09V483000

I'm now trying to get Volvo Australia to get the recall extended to Australia as (at least where I live in Queensland) we have equally hot areas to the USA!!!
