Red-Arrow wrote:Actually the lights are specifically or actual white, the SMD's I believe emit a colour of around 5000K or Kelvin which is the colour of a cold white tube light. Warm white would be 3800K or 4000K. The cameras white balance is off at night which determines how the colour in the pictures looks so I can assure you its not blue at all.
Thanks! SO if I get these SMD boards w/the wires...Then what would be the things I would do next for installing them for the front dome reading lamps? I'm not the greatest when it comes to electrical work, as I rarely do it.

Do you know if this polarity issue is likely the same in later models i.e. 2000?

I'm really interested in this mod and hope to do it ASAP! I just ordered one of these as a test:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWNX%3AIT

It comes with adapters, so that should make life easier!

Will do! I probably won't have any results until after January 10th, as I'll be in Alaska... but I'll be sure to post back here.

If the adapters work as they seem like they do, I'll be ordering a bunch of them.

The polarity problem is Volvo being smart and saving on wiring so I guess all the Volvo's should have the same issue. Just buy the SMD boards so you can flip the polarity at will.
Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.

The ebay link posted above I take it is the correct SMD board to buy. I looked at the web page and it comes with a few adapters I think. I'm just guessing, but I assume I would use the board connected to the "bulb" like looking piece that is right next to the board in the picture. Then I can flip the "bulb" adapter for the correct polarity right?

Second, how will the board mount inside the driver side and passenger side map lights up front in an 1995 850? (I assuming that's where they fit, I don't know if the boards in the ebay link will fit into the doors on the side, AND fit into the reading lights for the passengers in the back. Anyone know?

Is the map light (the light over the console area) to bright at night? Just wondering as to go from darkness to bright light when you are trying to read a map or something...
Any issues Red-Arrow?

I did this a few months ago and it's great! The car just seems much more modern with this color lighting, and it's brighter without being glaring.

I'll second the suggestion for SMD boards as the bulbs end up with and SMD shining UP into the roof, and what good is that!

I'm probably going to redo mine with boards when I do my headliner (thanks for the other write-up!). I'm thinking of just taking my headliner out and having it done with charcoal alcantara at a local interior place.

Would some of you guys be able to answer the questions?

Thanks in advance.
