Does disconnecting battery clear driving memory?

Post by T5AUS »

The other day when I replaced my MAF I disconnected my battery to clear the engine fault thrown by the faulty MAF . After I had replaced the MAF, I re conected the battery and took her for a drive in the city and to my suprise, she started to act up again with the flaring of the gears as before prior to my trans fluid flush and replace about a month ago. Up to this point, having done the drive cycle after the fluid change, she had been behaving well with no flaring or jumps in auto gear changes even in City driving. Today I took her for another long drive and the flaring had completely gone even back through the city at lights and corners she behaved normally. So my question is, did I erase the drive cycle memory when I disconnected the battery and now that I have given her some good long driving stretches, I assume she is back to normal, dang these are strange cars but I love em.
PS the new Maf has really improved her perfomance, now she flies

Hi Smarzig
Sorry, only just noticed your reply (for some reason I cant get the email post notification to work for me on here)
My car is a V70T5 2001 and the reason I changed the MAF was because of the low power response under acceleration and also I had an engine fault code showing which Volvo interpreted as quite probably being the Maf
Cheers

According to my 2001 XC owners manual, it says when disconnecting the battery (specific order of neg and pos removal) wait 10 minutes before reconnecting new battery to preserve data memory. My battery is original (9 yrs old) and though it looks pristine in every way, I will likely replace as I must be on serious borrowed time. Hope waiting the 10 minutes works for me .....

JJA .... Yes, jumping in a battery at hood connections is probably a prudent thing to do. Why take a chance. Thanks
