Raise hell about ETM?

Post by wolf »

I took my 1999 turbo Volvo S70 into my local volvo mechanic and let him clean the Throttle Body (Ive been having a very rough idle and pulsing rpm/axceleration at low speed), and he was nice enough to not charge me a cent because it didnt fix the problem. My check engine light was on and he said that the code had to deal with the etm failing. My ETS light has been coming on and off recently as well. I decided that I am going to take my car into the Volvo dealership to have them replace the ETM. My S70 only has 71,000 miles and I was wondering if raising hell to the dealership might do me any good, I saw on another forum this guy said that if you have less than 90K miles, you can probably get the dealership to pay for it if raise hell.

"Volvo will typically replace the ETB on cars under ~90k. If you are near or under that raise some serious hell. I did and got it all paid for!"

If this seems true, does anyone have any strong points I should make to the dealership to persuade them to replace the ETM for free? I think I am going to print out a bunch of articles and stuff to show them too. I also think im going to let them diagnose the problem before I tell them I know its the ETM, just to see if they try to tell me its something else. Thanks for the help.

Yep. Point the dealer to the link re: bad ETM's below. The more people that demand restitution on a now documented faulty part problem, the faster it will lead to a recall of the defective part. Make the corporations take responsibility.
