JRL is 100% right.
I am getting ready to change mine and I understand that it is quite easy. There should be a pressure release fitting between the gas tank and the filter. You can release the pressure and then unbolt the filter and replace. The system will re-pressurize on start-up. Hope that helps.

My 2004 S60 (na) doesn't have an external fuel filter, just the one in the tank with the fuel pump.
From 2004 model maintenance schedule:
" * Fuel filter is not replaceable on models identified by engine VIN codes 38, 39, 64, & 68. "
When they're there, they're just in front of the passenger-side rear wheel, under a protective cover, from what I've read.

I need to see if I can replace mine on my S60R. I don't think it has ever been done. I will check the VIN number tonight to see if it has a replaceable filter.
Yours should have a replaceable filter, the ones that do not as listed by engine code above and to my knowledge are base models that are partial zero emissions vehicles. They were shipped into CA and a few states in the northeast. I had one of the wagons that was a engine code 64, no filter and a few other oddities as well.
