idle problem

My 740 has developed a very poor idle immediately after starting. It does not have the problem when cold or after starting and holding the rev's at approx 1500rpm or so for 20 or 30 seconds. It idles perfectly after that, does not hesitate transitioning from idling to driving and otherwise is running great. This scenario does not seem to fit the standard idle air control valve going bad and it does not behave like the throttle body is dirty so I am at a loss as to where to look?

What year 740 and which engine?
