Dead alternator is a reasonable diagnosis. The electronics, including the ABS and immobilizer go ape $hit when the battery power gets low. Fix your power problem and the ABS warning and whatnot will probably go away. The brakes will work fine in the meantime of course, you just won't have ABS

have a google for alternator/battery/voltage drain checks that you can do. Check andclean all ground wires and connections etc. In short, don't panic yet, Its not as bad as it might seem.

I'm afraid I don't. I haven't brought the cars anywhere yet to get work done, been doing it myself. Ive gotten a couple of parts from Kline and they've nice to deal with, but I have no idea what the service dept is like.

More I think about it im wondering about the alternator maybe not being the issue because you were able to start it up again? Some head scratching to be done there. Again though, dont worry too much about the ABS message and whatnot yet, most likely it was due to the power being marginal...Just gotta find out why.

I recently had my alternator replaced. The only warning I was getting in the message centre stated 'EL. SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED'. This message was appearing for about 3 weeks when one night while driving the car just lost power as I was coming to a red light. I stopped at the red light and the car died. Tried to kick it over but no dice. The next day the auto electrician that I took it to tried to rebuild it but he said it was toast, needed a brand spanker. Since then no problems.

Your problem does seem to sound like an alternator problem, the multimeter result will confirm it.
