CAR STARTERS

Post by livirose »

Hello,

I have a Volvo, XC-90,2004. I recently received a car starter for Christmas, and had some concerns putting a car starter in a Volvo. When I called the Volvo dealership, they advised against it ,due to the complicated wiring system. It is Volvo's policy to advise against it, they explained. I then called 6th Ave. Electronics ,and spoke to the mechanic who is going to install it. He claimed he isn't suprised that Volvo made such a statement, because I am putting something that isn't Volvo into the car. He said he just installed one in a Volvo like mine and had no problems.

I really am at a loss regarding what to do. I don't want to have any problems with the car after I install the starter; as Volvo parts are very expensive. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a car starter. I live in the icy, cold Pocono's and I am always cold.

Any help regarding this matter would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I installed one myself about a year ago. The remote starting is not as complicated as Volvo makes it out to be. The only catch is the quality of the unit you are installing, try to stay with Viper, or any DEI product for that matter. Your Volvo will need a series of relays for the parking lights, keysense, and a bypass module (for the anti-theft transponder). I am sure this company you are using will have those, and be happy to sell them to you.

I would take a moment and talk to the installer and make sure to ask that he solder all the connects, and not use crimp/vampire still connections. I have seen to many shops go that route, just to have a bad crimp connection cause an issue later on down the road.

Hope this helps!
