window removal

I posted a week or so ago about a problem with my 2001 XC70 front passenger window popping out of it's track but got no response. I've Googled till my eyes are sore looking for some direction but surprisingly didn't find any support for this probelm. I did remove the door panel to have a quick look to see if I could see why the window drastically pops out of the track about 3" from closing - and will not go down past about 1/2 way - but it seemed a little more involved then I was ready to tackle at the time. Perhaps a little encouragement or explaination of what's going on might help me <g>. Otherwise, any idea how many of first born kids I'll have to sign over to the dealer to get it fixed. I suspect some part of the power mechanism is bent/broken and the entire assembly will need to be replaced.

I read many times about 850s' plastic window edge guides breaking inside the door.

I think we need to get you inside the door to have a look. Don't know how to do that myself, sorry.

Getting the door panel off was no big deal but in the usual Volvo engineering mindset that is just the first step. I was holding the door panel with the wiring harness still attached and peaking around it at the door - so couldn't really appraise how involved it would be to take this job to the next step. It looked rather involved for a quasi-machanically inclined, but financially strapped guy like me.

I wasn't quite so strapped until I got hit with replacing the ETM, timing belt, alternator, rotors & pads all around, two rear wheel bearings, two engine mounts, and the tailgate hinge alarm sensor all in the past month. Repairs alone cost me more than my first three cars combined <g>.
