auto. to std. changeover

Post by timbit »

Does anyone know if it's feasable and/or possible to switch out the automatic tranny from an 02 xc70 for the same year, or similar standard tranny.I'm thinking the mechanical end of it may not be too much of an issue, but what about the electrical/cumputer compatibility??? Has anyone out there attempted going this route?

You would have an uphill battle to find what you need since the only North American AWD manuals are the 04-06 R model and the Canadian market had a small number of 850 AWD manuals in 97. There may be some European options. Used availability is a big question. You will need pedal assembly under the dash, master cylinder, slave cylinder, hydraulic lines, shifter assembly with shift cables, and front driveshafts.
BUT the vehicle configuration of that car is not alterable unless you know someone deep in the bowels of Torslanda Headquarters that can hack your vehicle file so the TCM can be removed. Then there would be an ECM to be blanked and then reflashed to get rid of its need to have conversations with a TCM. There might be other modules that need to be reloaded due to their reliance on TCM being in the data stream of CAN communication network.
A rebuilt AW 55-50SN is cheaper than what you are thinking of undertaking.

Thanks Jimmy. This does sound a little more involved than it's worth.I guess I'll probably end up going the rebuilt way.
