Trailer wiring for the V70, 2010

Post by mryjack »

Has anyone successfully wired a 2010 v70 to a seven pole connector. I had the Volvo dealer install their trailer wiring module and connect it up, but only the running lights work, no stop or turn signals. I had an aftermarket trailer service attempt to wire it using the conventional method, i.e. tapping the brake and turnsignals in the tail fins. Didn't work because the stop light in the tail fin is deactivated when the tail gate is down. The problem seems to be the fact that the car has separate brake and turnsignal wires while the trailer needs both combined in one. I tried installing a non-powered converter from Hopkins, didn't work, tried installing a powered converter, got all the lights flickering all the time and a buzz on the radio.
Any ideas out there???

If the factory wiring ends in a four-flat plug, I think there is a simple plug-in converter to 7 round. Try your local farm tractor shop or trailer shop for ideas.

Had a four pin been installed, I might have been able to use it's output to the seven pin.. Lacking that, which would have required reprogramming of the trailer module by Volvo, I had an auto stereo place install relays for each of the functions, necessary to not mess up the Volvo sensitive wiring systems. I then repurposed the trailer's backup lights as brake lights, so all is well.
