Battery Replacement Time?

Post by radmangto »

My wife has a 2005 V70 that we bought new in May '05. I have been getting nervous about the original battery. It appears to be strong and has not given us any issues.

I think there are 2 sizes and the Group 49 is larger with higher cranking power.

We are moving to Punta Gorda, Fl quite soon for the golden phase of our lives (!) and think the extended warm summers in Fl may tax it. Although, here in Knoxville, our summers are hotter than Fl (routinely in high 90's with a few 100's) while Fla seems to be routinely 90 but for 3-4 months.

Any opinions and if so, any brands for replacement.

Thanks,
RadmanGTO

Deka makes an AGM that will withstand the rigors better than your standard lead acid battery. They are made in the USA and mine has been fantastic. It is an exact fit so no modifications are needed. Just bolt it in and enjoy.

here is what it looks like. They have a distribution center about 10 min north of Nashville .

The battery being in the trunk of that car gives it a much better environment and adds to the life. It may not need to be replaced yet. Most of the auto parts chains and Wal-Mart have the electronic tester that the car dealers use and it is a fairly good device to give battery diagnosis. I think they do the service for free. Of course I guess a report of bad battery puts the pressure on you to buy from the store giving the service.....

I start getting leery of a battery at about 3 years so at 5 I would be nervous. I can't speak for Deka automotive batteries, but I have used them in several marine applications and in my opinion there is none better.
