Anyone active on BRICKBOARD?
I used to read it quite a bit. As a point of interest, it's that site's frustrating search function that prompted me to start this forum.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

The 3 major Volvo forums can be easily (and somewhat accurately) stereotyped:
-Turbobricks is for the poor starving college students who want to go fast on a Top Ramen budget. You'll get flamed for talking about cosmetic upgrades.
-Volvospeed is for the 20-somethings with money to blow on bolt-ons and cosmetic upgrades. You'll get flamed for talking about doing things yourself.
-Brickboard is for those who want their Volvo's to go for eleventymillion miles exactly the way that Volvo intended many years ago. You'll get flamed for talking about making your car faster.

550 @ volvospeed
Hehe, kinda true but not quite. Volvospeed isn't all people with money to be honest. I'm one broke ass mofo and do everything myself. As are alot of the people on the board.
I would say volvospeed is more a bunch of well wishers, hoping they have 11 second cars
I mean who doesn't haha

Probably depends which forums you're looking at. The 'FWD/AWD 1998 and Prior' forum is home to the very best info on repair and maintenance on the 850 and S/V/C's anywhere and populated by professional mechanics and DIY'ers of all skill levels. The Performance and Audio forums are all about the money, but that's kind of what you'd expect to find there, isn't it?
Props to Matthew - this site is excellent! The formats are great and the repair database is unique (in the good way!) and very useful.

I am new in this forum and this question will be the opportunity for me to present how I arrived here:
I live currently in France but share my time between Dubai and Paris.
As a french guy, I have naturaly been to the french volvo forum but after 2 years there, I have realized a global poor quality because in France, a webmaster is not allowed to put online technical tips such as detailing procedures on how to reset the service headlight on a 850 model....
So, based on this French absurd obsolete system, a french volvo forum seems to be pointless. That's the basic conclusion I have erected after two years. I invite people here to have a look on the way a french forum is organized:
http://www.volvoforlife-fr.com/forum/index.php (You need to register to visit it!)
It's really fun, that's the only conclusion you can do. (lots of smilyes everywhere,...) but terribly messy (posts on all models together... )
After having actively participated to the poor quality of this forum, I have clearly understood that I needed to go on US or international forum to find a relevant quality.
Brickboard is OK for the content but the presentation is really bad.
There are different other forums but from my point of view this one is far the best in term of organization.
Congratulations for this forum: Good quality, Very good organization.
I will try to convince some french people to consider this forum.
Creating a forum in the USA or in english is challenging as one can notice the important number of this kind of forums.
The conception of this one deserves consideration.
Good job.

the "thread" format of Brickboard drives me nuts. the amount of "look at this hot chick pic" and "I hit 128 in my 740 turbo" posts on vovlospeed drives me nuts. seems like a lot of teenagers who have money to spend on stereos and whatnot 'cuz they don't have a car payment on their hand-me-down Volvo.
I'm generally looking for information, and I don't want to wade through tons of useless posts to get it. I used to deal with a forum about my Xterra- and got sick of the people who were only there to flame other people about everything. not to say i didn't get into arguments, but they were never about the truck- they were politics or sports, and I realised I was in the wrong place if that's what I wanted to discuss.
this forum is what I want an informational forum to be. thanks to Matt and his efforts- and those who are helpful, tolerant of "newbies" (because we all are at some point), and friendly. I've learned a lot about my 855 in a short amount of time thanks to this site, and I've at times offered my own help for others!
it's a great site, with the most concise and well-structured Volvo information I've found- Keep it up!

Sweedespeed has always impressed me.
Things like this are fun to read.
They're full-timers on that site, and it shows in the quality. They have tons of great content and the best automotive photography on the 'net. More power to em.
I'd like to take this site in that direction someday soon.

Yeah, that's a great story....I have to say though that your site has a personality of it's own which is starting to grow on me, and many more posters than just a year ago. keep up the good work...I like the direction of the site!
