2000 S80 needs transmission service???

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 needs transmission service???

Post by jeffers »

I got my 2000 s80 two years ago at 58,000 mileage. Now its 73,000 mileage.

I just change engine oil regularly, never did any transmission service.

Do I go to do a transmission service? How often should transmission service should be done? And what else should
be included in regular maintenance, except oil change and transmission service?

thanks a lot!

The transmission in that car is made by General motors and is basically a gearbox used in many mid-size GM cars. It should be familiar to any trusted lube service business and have readily available service kit with filter and pan gasket if you are inclined to do the service yourself. The fluid required is readily available Dexron-III or better.
Volvo has a very lengthy service interval for it but 30,000 mile interval is quite often for most. If the car sees use where lots of shifts per mile are seen, like only town use, more often as 20K miles might be indicated.
Maybe a drain and fill every 20k with filter service every 40K.
If the fluid appears clean and clear (given the red tint) then I would resist the expensive flush service that will likely be offered. Many transmission only service shops offer reasonable pricing on the filter service. Your volvo dealer may have competitive pricing on this service.
