dashboard gauges and tack and spedo

I have a 2003 V-70 with a problem with the dash board guages
the tack and speedo trip meter, and fuel and temp gauges are all cutting out intermeditally, I can hit the dash with my fist and the gauges will come back on, turning the car off and then back on also works.

I think there may be some type of a relay problem can anyone help me, where would I start looking for the problem.

if you search on here for "DIM" you will find lots of info on this problem. The DIM probably is faulty but some of the info posted may get you a resolution without that.
