Considering a 2004 C70. Pros and cons???

Post by Sarajmt »

Hi! My husband and I are considering a 2004 C70 convertible. From your own experience with this car, what are the pro's and cons of this car. I hope everything is great. I've always wanted a convertible. Thank you in advance for your time.

LOTS of cowl shake
Test drive it over some good bumps before you buy
If it doesn't bother you, have it checked out by a competant Volvo mechanic
You fail to mention mileage so we can't tell you what to look for

Well, it's 8 years old so you should factor in a new timing belt, some probable front suspension work (unless you live in the south) and some little Volvo BS items

Check the AC to see if it works.
These cars along with all the 98-2000 S and V70's have poorly designed AC evaporators and need replacing every few years ($1500, 10hour job, they rot out)!
If it's too cold where you live, try to get it in a heated garage and try then.

The last but most important item is service records, service records, service records.
Did I mention service records???!!!

Thank you JRL. As this will be my fourth Volvo, I am painfully aware of the A/C issues with Volvos. I'm dealing with one now on my wagon. As I live in North Texas, A/C is an absolute necessity. This is from a dealer with warranty and service records provided. As far as my wagon, yes, my husband keeps immaculate records on all our cars.

I was just wondering about special problems, like the ones you mentioned previously, associated with the C70. So far, I haven't read anything that puts me off. I've never had a Volvo with an A/C that operates as well as an American made car. And sometimes they do cheap out on the plastic. But other than that, I love my volvos! I've loved them all!

Specific C70 issues
Front doors and windows
Right seat mechanisms
Top sensors, etc
Check the drains in the top well if clogged the car will fill up with water
(Ask me how I know that)!

We have purchased this car. And we LOVE it!! Looks brand new inside and out. Engine is perfect shape. This car was literally driven by a little old lady who kept it in the garage most of the time. Totally waterproof. NO problems that we've encountered , yet. We did purchase an extended warranty that covers close to everything. Except for teenage drivers! shuddering!
